May is behind us and I am ecstatic at how I did for the month considering I was amid a cross country move from Illinois to Nevada.

Needless to say, yes, we survived the move.

I’ll get into more details in the post itself, but we’re officially in Nevada and MUCH happier with our new state.

From a business perspective, things are going really well, especially for as little as I have worked on things lately.

This month my total income after expenses was $15,823 which comes out to $510 per day.

Also, make sure you follow me on Instagram as well @onehourprofessor.  I just started being active there, and here’s a recent post I think you’ll enjoy:

Personal Life Update

It’s official, we now live in Nevada!

And we have an amazing beautiful house that I can’t wait to raise a family in!

No, instead we are stuck in an Airbnb that’s mediocre at best and we’re making things work.

Below is a picture of our sweet new digs and if anything, it’s proof that you don’t need an amazing office to run a business when you work online.

Overall the Airbnb is alright.  I’m not a high maintenance person, and my wife is pretty good about that as well, so it works temporarily.  There are positives and negatives of the unit so far;

  • It’s a safe, fully gated, location about 15 minutes from the strip.
  • There is a decent lawn for the dog to run around and play on.
  • They have a good-sized pool that we’ve enjoyed many times.
  • The A/C unit has been reliable, and we’ve run it 24/7 since we arrived.
  • It’s a quiet area and there have been very few disturbances.

  • The internet has gone down numerous times and we’ve had to use our phones to broadcast a signal when that happens.
  • So far, we have had to kill two cockroaches.  I hate them.  I hate them very much so, and find them disgusting.  They both came into our unit when we cooked dinner and I don’t think it’s a problem in the unit itself, but it’s outside.
  • Our cat (Payton) and dog (Petunia) don’t seem to like being stuck in this studio very much.  We’re trying to  keep them entertained, but it’s not easy.
  • There is no oven.  We’re using an air fryer and a foreman grill to make it through and while it hasn’t been easy, it’s working well enough.

Aside from the Airbnb, we love Las Vegas.  There is always something to do and we’ve spent a ton of time enjoying the weather.  It’s starting to get hot, around 105-110 degrees and that’s been something we’re simply avoiding by working during the day and hanging out at night when it cools down.

We’ve gone hiking, gone out to all of the “cool” downtown areas like Summerlin, Henderson, Town Square, and of course, the strip.  We have a gym and go every other day.  As of now we’ve been alternating from a pool day to a gym day and it’s a nice way to not get bored.

One of the biggest things I’ve noticed is that it’s MUCH easier to break up the day here in Las Vegas.  In Illinois I felt like I was stuck at home half the time because I couldn’t go enjoy the day as it was either raining or snowing.  Here it’s sunny almost all of the time and I like that I always have the option to go enjoy an hour outside versus being stuck indoors.

I am seeing an accountant on Monday to try to figure out the business-side of things to get that all settled so I can save on my taxes and we’re set to close on a new house on June 24th.  Things haven’t been easy with the house and we’re still negotiating, but it does look like we will be able to close on time at this point.

That’s all for the personal update.

If this is your first time on my website let me explain a few things about my detailed income reports each month that outlines the money I made (or lost) each month.

I’m doing this for a number of reasons:

1) I strive to be transparent about what it takes to make money online.

2) These reports help me keep track of my own progress.

3) These reports hold me accountable.

Keep in mind, I don’t create these to gloat about my earnings. I create them to help you understand the true “earning curve” of online business.

On a side note, I don’t disclose my actual website URL’s on my reports because I’ve had bad experiences with copycats in the past.

So, in my income reports, you’ll see website generalizations like Website 1, Website 3, Website 5 Website 4, etc.

Now that we got that out of the way, let’s dive into the report.

Project Updates

Udemy Update

I don’t focus on Udemy any longer, but I have made money from them every month since I stopped.

OHP Website Update

  • OHP had it’s best month ever for traffic and earnings again. However, as nice as that is, I’ve noticed that the growth trajectory is slowing a bit.  I’m annoyed by this as I keep publishing content and building links, but the growth isn’t keeping up.  I’m trying to remember that growth isn’t all that matter as I want the right people to visit, but as of now I’m just being a little impatient.
  • Pageviews are now at 89k this month, which is an 13% increase MoM.
  • Referring domains increased to 1,207 and keep climbing as I keep guest posting and links get shared.
  • This month I earned: $7,183. This is (again) my best month ever for this site for the 7th month in a row.  It was an increase in earnings MoM by 4%.
  • EPM dropped to $81 and I’m a little annoyed by this as the content I’m publishing is affiliate focused, but I have to keep optimizing posts to make sure I’m making as much as possible.
  • PLAN: As of now, I’m doing a better job of building out a content calendar and planning ahead.  Usually, I was doing things week to week, and now I have a full month planned.  This is extremely helpful for me as it let’s me think strategically and proactively as opposed to reactively.  For now, the plan is to continue to publish good content build links through guest posting and networking.  More of the same on the strategic side, and I’m hoping my site will eventually explode in growth and start ranking at the top of the SERPS.

Website 3

  • Pageviews hit 215k this month, which is a 19% increase MoM.
  • Referring domains increased to 720. I don’t know why they increased that much month over month as this site is pretty hands-off, but I’m happy with the trend.
  • This month I earned: $4,466. This was an increase of 19% MoM.  For another month in a row, earnings have increased a lot and I did nothing.
  • EPM increased to $20.75. I attribute this 100% to Ezoic as things have been very positive since joining.
  • PLAN: This site is currently 100% passive and I do not work on it.  I intend on selling this site once I’m consistently making enough from OHP to justify it.

Website 5

  • Pageviews hit 65k this month, which is a 10% decrease MoM. I’m not sure why the traffic dropped this month, but I haven’t paid attention to it for awhile.
  • Referring domains increased to 518.
  • This month I earned: $1,277 which is an decrease of 10% MoM.
  • EPM decreased to $19.67, which is close to what it was last month.
  • PLAN: This site is currently 100% passive and I do not work on it.  I intend on selling this site once I make enough from OHP to justify it.

Website 6

  • I have officially put display ads on this site to increase earnings. It’s still early on and I only had them up for about a third of the month, but it’s good to see some extra income coming in.
  • Pageviews hit 10.9k this month, which is a 6% increase MoM.
  • Referring domains increased to 168.
  • Earnings decreased 36%, but it’s skewed because it’s not a lot of money.
  • EPM is now at $8.60 for this site which is lower than last month, but last month was all based on affiliate income.
  • How Much Have I Invested in This Website: $5,718
  • How Much Money Has This Website Made? $1,919
  • Total ROI: -$3,799
  • How Much Content is on the Website? Keep in mind this website is mostly focused on affiliate content with some informational content: 222 Blog posts
  • PLAN: Production has been paused.  This site is currently 100% passive and I do not work on it.  I do not intend on selling it though, I think this could eventually be something very large.

Website 7

  • After the very strange scenario that happened in April of Google forgetting about various pages on my site, website 7 bounced back BIG time and absolutely crushed it’s previous earnings.
  • Pageviews hit 125k this month, which is a 27% increase MoM.
  • Referring domains increased to 325. These are all completely natural backlinks and I did nothing more than a simple skyscraper campaign when I started.
  • This month I earned: $4,135. This was an increase of 51% MoM, which is insane and I hope it continues.
  • EPM for the site this month is $33.04, which was a big increase from last month and excites me.
  • How Much Have I Invested in This Website: $33,382
  • How Much Money Has This Website Made? $22,595
  • Total ROI: $-10,787 (If I were to sell the website today, I can assume I’d sell for an estimated $130k. Which means a net gain of about $120,000)
  • How Much Content is on the Website: Keep in mind that this is an informational type of website, not affiliate related at all.
    • 1410 Informational pages on the website
    • 132 Informational Blog Posts
  • PLAN: This site quite literally exploded in May and I’m very happy to see it. Truth be told, I never thought this site would make more than a couple thousand dollars a month given the topic, but it’s growing incredibly fast and the EPM is much higher than I anticipated.  There are still a lot of articles to write and I’ve maxed out what my writer is capable of producing each week, so things will continue moving forward as they have been.  The old saying goes “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”  So, I will continue doing exactly what I’ve done in the past and hopefully watch this site continue to grow.

Website 8

  • This site is still moving up and down and that’s okay. It hasn’t’ been a perfect growth curve  here, but that’s because it’s a tough niche to compete in.  While it hasn’t been perfect, the site continues to grow which is great.
  • Pageviews hit 7.6k this month, which is a 8% increase MoM.
  • Referring domains increased to 131. I’ve done nothing for this and I’m watching spam links to the site so make sure it doesn’t become too much.
  • This month I earned: $38 This was an decrease of 37% MoM.  I’m looking forward to when 10k pageview months are consistent and I can throw display ads on the site.
  • EPM is now at $5.00.
  • How Much Have I Invested in This Website: $6,418
  • How Much Money Has This Website Made? $688
  • Total ROI: -$5,730
  • How Much Content is on the Website? Keep in mind this website is mostly focused on affiliate content with some informational content.
    • 207 Informational Blog Posts
  • PLAN: Continue content production of 3 articles a week.  I’m still not building links here, but I’m really curious what will happen once I do.

  • Pageviews hit 1.3k this month, which is a 6% increase MoM.
  • Referring domains increased to 13.
  • This month I earned: $14. This was a increase of 6% MoM.
  • EPM is at $13.98.
  • How Much Content is on the Website?
    • 25 Informational Blog Posts
  • PLAN: This site continues to sit, I have done nothing for it in years.  Production has been paused.  This site is currently 100% passive and I do not work on it.

Website 10 Update (100% Outsourced Authority Website Built by BrandBuilders)

  • This is month 3 of the 100% outsources authority website experiment and so far, so good. I don’t have a ton to report this month as the site is essentially sitting and BrandBuilders has started to build some links to it.  As of now, my plan is to let this sit and I’m figuring out the next stage with BrandBuilder for the site.
  • Pageviews this month are back to zero. That shows that last month was nothing more than spam and a fluke.
  • Referring domains 3
  • This month I earned: $0
  • EPM is at $0
  • How Much Content is on the Website?
    • 33 Informational Blog Posts
  • PLAN: The content is all posted on the site and BrandBuilders is starting to build links to it.  I have a meeting with them in the next week to discuss the next steps, but for now, I feel like the site needs to sit and get out of the Google sandbox.  Aside from that, I eventually have to redesign the site with Thrive Theme Builder.  To be clear, the ugliness of the site is no fault of BrandBuilders.  I told them in the beginning that I wanted to get a site up as quickly as we could and focus on content, so my site is as ugly as it gets.  But, my intention is to get the site to have some traffic and a decent domain rating in Ahrefs, and then I’ll redesign it to make it better.

Website 8 Complimentary YouTube Channel

  • This channel had another solid month and all metrics increased from last month. As of now, this YouTube channel is the most profitable one that we own and it’ll be nice to see where it goes in the future.  This was a channel we’ve built without ever being in front of the camera, so it was a VERY successful experiment. If you’re interested in building an outsourced YouTube channel like this, I recommend that you check out this webinar.
  • Views hit 167k this month, which is an increase of 4% MoM.
  • Gained 702 subscribers this month.
  • Earnings increased to $734, which is an increase of 8% MoM.
  • How Much Did We Invest in This YouTube Channel: $1,470 (Estimate of $350/month in expenses)
  • How Much Money Has This YouTube Channel Made? $4,646
  • Total ROI: $3,176
  • PLAN: Considering that this channel is doing so well, my wife is now managing things to where she posts 7 SEO-focused videos every week and 1 (potentially) viral video a week.  This is the plan for the immediate future to try to grow this channel even larger.

One Hour Professor YouTube Channel

  • The OHP channel is sitting and doing okay, and I’m itching to get back into it but can’t just yet. Were waiting for our house to close and build out my office, so I’m hoping I can get that all done by the beginning of July.
  • Views dropped a bit this month to 30.8k, which is understandable considering I’m not able to work on it at the moment. This was a decrease of 9%.
  • Gained 594 subscribers this month.
  • Channel earned $721 this month. An earnings decrease of 3%.
  • How Much Have I Invested in This YouTube Channel: $3,897 (Estimate of $120/month in expenses)
  • How Much Money Has This YouTube Channel Made? $10,349
  • Total ROI: $6,452
  • PLAN: There will be a few weeks where I can’t do 1 video per week as we get through this move, but I promise you when I come back to YouTube it’s going to be SIGNIFICANTLY better than what it’s been in the past.  My wife is helping me, we’ve found another editor, and the production quality will skyrocket and I’m doing a content calendar to make sure I cover all of the questions you guys have and I’m able to keep things interesting.

Themed YouTube Channel 1

  • This channel slowed down again in May, but it looks like it may have stabilized.
  • Views increased to 188k views, which is a 1% increase MoM.
  • Gained 811 subscribers this month.
  • PLAN: Thalita is moving some of the video descriptions to English to see if we can get more views in different markets, but we’ll see how YouTube feels about it.  In addition, she’s considering adding some more videos to the channel in different ways to try to increase viewership/earnings as well. She’s not putting a ton of work here as we’ve been talking more about the OHP YouTube channel, but this is a nice little side project for her.

Thalita YouTube Channel

  • • This channel is effectively dead and I’ll be removing it from the income report. It just wasn’t worth the effort and it’s apparent that this is a failed project. This is further proof that sometimes projects just fail, and that’s okay. <img decoding=” /> If we didn’t try these projects and consistently look into new ideas, we’d never diversify. Overall, it wasn’t a huge loss as we invested around $2000 into the project before calling it quits. Thalita has enough on her plate with other projects, so this one just isn’t going to be a focus anymore.

Lessons Learned

Every month, I’m going to reflect back and tell you a few different lessons that I’ve learned. My hope is that the lessons each month will be a cautionary tale for you that makes it so that you don’t make the dumb mistakes that I do along the way.

  • Don’t panic when you hit a plateau.
  • Growth brings more growth.
  • A content calendar is essential to plan appropriately.
