For those who don’t want to read this whole review, this video should help clarify some of the features of Thrive Themes.

Is Thrive Themes Worth It?

I can sit here until I’m blue in the face and tell you how great Thrive Themes is, but this video does a great job of explaining just how useful it is quickly and easily.

That being said, I’ve used Thrive Themes myself for many years and have found a way to build a portfolio of sites that generates over $25,000/month.  That’s not me gloating either, that’s me showing you through my own success that this platform is what bloggers and website owners need to succeed.

If that isn’t proof that Thrive Themes is a great platform, I don’t know what is.

But why is Thrive Themes so instrumental to my own success?

Though Thrive Themes create great WordPress themes and plugins, I think the most important thing is that their products are conversion-focused

This means that all of the products they offer were built not just to function, but to provide bloggers and business owners digital marketing tools they need to drive conversions and ultimately, revenue for their blog or website.

This is why I’m such a big fan of the Thrive Themes suite of products.  Without them, I’m confident in saying that my online business wouldn’t be nearly as successful as it is today.

Thrive Themes Pros and Cons

Thrive Themes is one of the most advanced, yet easy-to-use suite of website building tools

Thrive Themes offers WordPress themes and plugins, as well as a no-code drag-and-drop editor that allows you to build unique websites even with no technical skills.

This conversion-focused set of tools is designed with one goal, and that is to help you turn website visitors into subscribing customers.

With it, you will be able to get more traffic, more leads, more subscribers, and more customers for your business.

But, as with any tool (however awesome), there are pros and cons you need to consider before deciding whether or not it’s right for your website. Check out the ones I’ve listed as part of this Thrive Themes review to help you understand if it’s a good choice for what you’re looking for.

Pros of Thrive Themes:

  1. Conversion Focus: There are very few vendors on the market who have such a vast portfolio of tools focused on marketing, optimization, and lead generation.
  2. Hundreds of Page Templates: You can choose from almost 300 templates to help you start creating web pages quickly.
  3. Free Training: They’ve created Thrive University, which is full of courses where you can learn everything you need to know about how to use each of the tools.
  4. Easy to Use: Thrive Themes has a very intuitive user interface. The drag-and-drop editor makes it easy to create pages – even for newbies.
  5. Great 3rd-Party Integrations: You can easily integrate with tons of other marketing tools and services, such as plugins, platforms, etc.
  6. Fully Responsive: The Thrive Themes page builder and templates are all 100% responsive.
  7. Perfect for WordPress: The WordPress themes and plugins work perfectly for WordPress sites and are optimized for the WordPress platform.

Cons of Thrive Themes:

  1. Large Number of Products: The sheer number of tools offered by Thrive Themes can prove overwhelming for beginners.
  2. Learning Curve:  Just like any new platform out there, Thrive Themes suite of products all have their own learning curve.  I do think the platforms are intuitive, but it takes time and patience to master them.
  3. Only Works With WordPress: There’s no version of Thrive Themes that works with Drupal, Joomla, or any other website platform.
  4. Support Response Time:  It’s not that the support for Thrive Themes is bad, it’s actually quite good.  But sometimes it takes hours to get a response which is frustrating when you’re in the middle of doing something.

Thrive Themes Product Reviews

At first glance, the suite of conversion-focused tools can be a bit intimidating, but I’ll break everything down to make it simple and easy for you to determine which thrive plugins will help you meet your marketing objectives.

Let’s take a tour of the Thrive Themes suite of tools and WordPress plugins.

Thrive Theme Builder

($97/Year For One Site)

Thrive Theme Builder is a flexible, easy to use WordPress theme for building a WordPress site.

Not to be confused with Thrive Architect, which is a plugin and content editor, this theme builder was released in early 2020 and does so much more.

With it, you will be able to visually create and modify any aspect of your homepage, content pages, landing pages, including headers, footers, blog post templates, sidebars, page layouts, search pages, category pages, 404s, etc.

This means that you no longer have to be stuck with whatever page elements came with the theme. With this tool, you will be able to drag-and-drop different elements to make your page look exactly how you want it to and fully customize it to your needs.

Fun fact, the website you’re on right now was made with Thrive Theme Builder and though I’m biased, I think it looks pretty darn good.

Click here to see a video explaining more about Thrive Theme Builder.

Things I Like About Thrive Theme Builder:

  • It’s a dedicated theme, and not a page builder plugin or a workaround.
  • The theme builder integrates seamlessly with Thrive Architect and other Thrive products.
  • There are predesigned sections of each area of the site.  This makes it easy if you aren’t a graphic designer.
  • Every element and template has a mobile responsive design.
  • All features are 100% customizable to build a pixel-perfect site.
  • It has built-in speed tools/recommendations to make the theme fast.
  • They have a number of customizable page designs to choose from to get started quickly

Things I Dislike About Thrive Theme Builder:

  • It only comes with one companion theme, Shapeshift. However, you can still build dozens of different sites using current design elements and page templates and even build your own theme from scratch if you’d like.
  • Difficult to understand at first as there is so much functionality available.

Thrive Architect

($97/Year For One Site)

Thrive Architect is a next-generation WordPress page builder that is ideal for marketers and business owners whose main focus is on marketing.

For those that don’t know, Thrive Architect used to be called Thrive Content Builder. I’m not 100% sure why they decided to change their name from Thrive Content Builder to Thrive Architect, but Thrive Architect is much more feature-rich than its predecessor.

This visual editor is really the foundation of the entire suite of tools from Thrive Themes. It’s the primary editor that you will be using to build or edit your sales pages, landing pages, lead generation forms, etc.

It provides a ton of flexibility and power compared to the default editor in WordPress and has many pre-designed landing pages to choose from. It will help you transform your pages and blog posts into unique, responsive, eye-catching, and high converting pages that your audience will love.

Thrive Architect provides you with total visual control over how your website and any blog post looks and feels without you having to learn any coding like HTML or CSS. Everything on the platform is drag-and-drop.

As with any software, there’s a bit of a learning curve when using Thrive Architect, but it’ll certainly be worth it to be able to create exceptional, professional-looking websites without having to deal with CSS or PHP code.

For me, this was the main reason I found Thrive Themes and why I went with them.  I didn’t realize how helpful all of their other tools were, but this was the one that convinced me to give them a shot.

Click here to see a video explaining more about Thrive Architect.

Things I Like About Thrive Architect:

  • Everything is simple to use. What you see is what you get
  • Comes with 40+ Landing page sets and each set has 2-3 landing page templates.
  • Thrive Themes offers great support to help beginners learn to use the tool

Things I Dislike About Thrive Architect:

  • It can slow down the speed of your pages a little bit, but that’s the same with any page builder on the market as it adds extra code.

Thrive Leads

$97/Year For One Site)

Thrive Leads is a tool that you can use to build your email lists. Everything that you could need to attract and inspire readers to sign up for your email list is included, which makes it such a powerful tool.

You can display the forms using the various options. For instance, you can choose a pop-up opt-in form or include it in your sidebar widget and only have these trigger on mobile, or on desktop.  There are a ton of different display options for Thrive Leads.

Additionally, it allows you to measure performance and conduct split tests. You get reports that provide you with deep insights on how your email marketing strategy is working so you know how to improve it.

This is a HUGE deal because you can test different test or visuals to see what will convert better and provide you with more email subscribers.

Click here to see a video explaining more about Thrive Leads.

Things I Like About Thrive Leads:

  • Comes with over seven different opt-in form types
  • It offers asset delivery mechanisms to deliver e-books and lead magnets without using an email autoresponder as you can do it directly on your website.
  • Convenient A/B split testing with features for traffic distribution, as well as automatic winner selection
  • Analytics to easily understand the conversions of your opt-ins
  • Integrates with over 35 other marketing products and services (and they keep integrating with more as time goes on)

Things I Dislike About Thrive Leads:

  • Currently doesn’t allow you to track clicks as a conversion.  This is a bit annoying if you want to have a popup, then have a “click” be measured as a variable. You can get around it with link shorteners, but it’s probably the thing I like least.

Thrive Quiz Builder

($97/Year For One Site)

Online quizzes are very popular viral marketing tactics on social media, or interactive elements on your own website.  They make great list building tools, as well.

However, the problem with creating quizzes is that they often require either expensive tools or custom programming.

Thrive Quiz Builder has everything you need to build exciting quizzes for your audience. You can give different readers different calls to action, and, based on their answers, you’re able to offer them specific opt-ins that will allow you to segment your list.

Using this tool, you can create some pretty awesome quizzes to boost your list building efforts or to get loads of traffic to your blog posts. Not only that, but you can also use quizzes as surveys to gather more information about your audience.

Click here to see a video explaining more about Thrive Quiz Builder.

Things I Like About Thrive Quiz Builder:

  • Thrive Quiz Builder comes with different quiz question types
  • It includes powerful A/B split testing and analytics features
  • It’s simple and easy to use, even for beginners
  • The Thrive Quiz Builder dashboard includes a badge editor as well
  • All quiz templates are mobile-friendly

Things I Dislike About Thrive Quiz Builder:

  • There’s a limited number of quiz styles

Thrive Apprentice

($97/Year For One Site)

If you want to start offering online courses, then Thrive Apprentice will help make your job easy. This plugin solves the problem of how to organize and display digital courses on your WordPress website.

It helps you create stylish lesson pages and lets you easily organize them into modules and chapters. You also get full progress tracking features that allow you to keep track of everything from right within your WordPress dashboard to understand how your students are progressing.

Thrive Apprentice works with all other themes, and it integrates easily with all major membership website themes and plugins. It also has deep integration with SendOwl to make sending emails in conjunction with the course even easier.

Click here to see a video explaining more about Thrive Apprentice.

Things I Like About Thrive Apprentice:

  • Thrive Apprentice is very easy to use even for total beginners
  • It’s a very cost-effective solution as no subscription is necessary
  • There are no transactions fees associated with course delivery
  • You get full control of your digital course creation and marketing
  • Great user interface convenient for managing everything in one place

Things I Dislike About Thrive Apprentice:

  • There’s no way to drip content, it’s all or nothing for the courses
  • No shopping cart functionality
  • No gamification options, which would be nice to keep students active

Thrive Comments

($47/Year For One Site)

Having comments on your WordPress site can help encourage user engagement. By adding fresh, relevant content on your website pages, you also help to boost your SEO efforts.

With this tool, you are essentially replacing the default comments system on all blog posts and unlocking a lot more capability, including upvoting, opt-in functions after they leave a comment, and so on. This will help you turn your comments into a big part of your overall conversion strategy.

For example, when blog readers post a comment, you can give them a call to action to share the blog post or opt-in to your email list. These are just a few of the ways you can use Thrive comments to transform your blog comments into a powerful marketing tool.

If you want to see this tool in action, scroll to the bottom of this post and leave a comment.  You’ll see how I’ve used it myself.

Click here to see a video explaining more about Thrive Comments.

Things I Like About Thrive Comments:

  • Thrive Comments helps you improve the user experience and generate more leads
  • It makes your comments section more interactive and engaging
  • The plugin includes a ton of features to boost your conversions with engaged viewers
  • It is very reasonably priced and offers great value

Things I Dislike About Thrive Comments:

  • There are very few styling options for the comment form

Thrive Optimize

(($47/Year For One Site)

Thrive Optimize is designed to let you A/B test the pages on your website so you can optimize your conversion rates.

A/B testing allows you to send your website traffic to two different page versions – the original page, and a second one where one element, such as the call to action text or page headline, has been changed.

You can track conversions so you can see which page does better and make the winning page your default version. You then repeat the test by changing another element. This constant process of improvement is vital to creating landing page templates on your site that convert like crazy.

It tacks right onto Thrive Architect, which enables you to run full split-testing and track conversions from right within your WordPress website.

Click here to see a video explaining more about Thrive Optimize.

Things I Like About Thrive Optimize:

  • Surprisingly simple yet super-effective A/B testing features
  • You can run unlimited A/B tests and page variations
  • Great looking interface and detailed reporting options
  • Set and forget with automatic winner feature
  • Integrates easily with Thrive Leads allowing you to test email opt ins

Things I Dislike About Thrive Optimize:

  • Thrive Optimize only works with WordPress pages and it is tied to Thrive Architect’s page builder interface so you need to have both tools to use it.
  • Can only be used for WordPress pages (not posts)

Thrive Ultimatum

($97/Year For One Site)

Thrive Ultimatum is a smart, customizable, and simple-to-use plugin that allows you to use scarcity to sell your digital products.

I can tell you from personal experience that scarcity works, I use it in my own business.  For some reason, people don’t take action a lot of the time until they know they’re about to miss out on something.

This tool lets you run fixed date campaigns for limited time offers, automatically recurring campaigns so that your scarcity campaigns happen repeatedly, and they also offer the ultimate evergreen system that gives all users their own deadline.

Things I Like About Thrive Ultimatum:

  • Robust solution to help you increase conversions and sales
  • There are tons of flexible and versatile design types
  • Thrive Ultimatum includes lockdown features for exclusivity
  • It offers varied design states according to time left on the offer
  • They offer a countdown timer functionality that you can embed in pages

Things I Dislike About Thrive Ultimatum:

  • Thrive Ultimatum requires integration with Thrive Leads for even better functionality
  • Can’t be used to insert times in emails or other CMS platforms like Shopify/Clickfunnels, etc.

Click here to see a video explaining more about Thrive Ultimatum.

Thrive Ovation

($47/Year For One Site)

Thrive Ovation is a testimonial management plugin that helps you gather social proof, such as customer testimonials which play a great role in helping to persuade your prospects.

The system is automated to collect client testimonials and then display them in an attractive way on your website pages to help you get better conversions.

Social proof is an important component of your marketing, yet many website owners don’t ask for testimonials on their sites. Also, if they do get a testimonial, they don’t store or use it in the most effective way.

If that’s you, then Thrive Ovation could be the ideal tool for you. With this plugin, you will be able to automate the collection of testimonials on your website. You’ll also have an easy way to manage and organize everything from your WordPress dashboard.

You can display the testimonials anywhere on your site. All you have to do is drag and drop them into any page, and you even have the option of showing them dynamically.

Things I Like About Thrive Ovation:

  • Thrive Ovation is a very simple way to capture, manage, and display testimonials on your website
  • It gives you the option to import testimonials via social media
  • The plugin comes with fully customizable page templates
  • It gives you the ability to add more questions to capture forms

Things I Dislike About Thrive Ovation:

  • You need to purchase Thrive Architect or the Thrive Themes Membership in order to tap into this plugin’s best features

Click here to see a video explaining more about Thrive Ovation.

While those are my favorite products that Thrive offers, they have a few other small ones that are worth mentioning:

Thrive Headline Optimizer

The Thrive headline optimizer plugin allows you to A/B split test your headlines to boost the click-through rate for your own website pages. This also helps to boost other metrics, including scroll depth and time spent on page.

Generally speaking, Thrive headline optimizer is built for large websites or blogs that have a lot of traffic and want to split test how well their internal headlines do to keep visitors on the site.

Click here to see a video explaining more about Thrive Headline Optimizer.

Thrive Clever Widgets

This plugin allows you to add some conditions so you can display widgets contextually on your blog post. With this tool, you will be able to display different widgets for different posts. You can vary them by categories, tags, etc.

Click here to see a video explaining more about Thrive Clever Widgets.

Understanding Thrive Suite (Formerly Thrive Themes Membership)

When you purchase Thrive Suite, you get full access to all of their tools, and you can use them on up to 25 websites. The tools include everything that I just mentioned above.

However, in February of 2022 Thrive started to offer the ability to purchase individual tools again for a single site at a yearly cost. These rates have been reflected in each of the items listed in this review.

Summing it up, here’s what you get with the Thrive Suite:

  • Access to all of the plugins
  • You can use them on up to 25 websites
  • Tech support as long as your membership is active
  • You’ll also get access to Thrive University which has many in-depth tutorials

I personally opted to purchase the full suite when I first started with the platform and have happily paid it ever since.  For all of the tools that you get and the benefits they bring to help you run your online business, it’s very well worth the cost from my experience.

It should be mentioned that Thrive also has an agency membership for $49/month paid annually.  This allows companies full access to their suite of tools for up to 50 total websites.

Thrive Themes Vs. Competitors

There is a lot of competition on the market when it comes to WordPress page builders. From themes and landing pages to plugins and front-end page builders, you’ll find tons of other options available to you.

In this section, we compare Thrive Themes to some of their main competitors.  Each of these is very credible and offers its own set of unique features.

Thrive Themes vs. Divi

One of Thrive Themes main competitors is Elegant Themes. These two companies come from similar backgrounds, and both began as theme builders but later branched out into custom plugins and other more complex tools that serve a wider range of needs.

As one of the Thrive Themes’ main competitors, Elegant Themes offers two main options that most directly challenge Thrive tools, and these are Divi, their page builder, and Bloom, their opt-in form plugin.

The Divi Builder by Elegant Themes is a professionally crafted page builder that comes with premium features. While the Divi builder excels in a lot of areas and offers a lot of interesting features, it’s not as simple to use as Thrive Architect in my opinion.

Similar to Thrive Architect, it can also be integrated into your WordPress site to help you create pages of your own design. Both these tools have features that are similar, which makes it difficult to declare the best between them.

Their opt-in form plugin, Bloom does a lot of what Thrive Leads does but when it comes to flexibility and customization options, Thrive Leads is more robust.

Like Thrive Themes, Elegant Themes offers a yearly membership for just $89/year compared to Thrive’s $228/year membership. However, unlike Thrive, you don’t get quiz builder, course builder, A/B testing tools, etc. with your membership.

You can click here to learn more about Divi Builder by Elegant Themes.

Thrive Themes vs. OptimizePress

A comparison of Thrive Themes’ Thrive Architect/Thrive Theme Builder and OptimizePress show that both tools are very similar. The main difference between Thrive and OptimizePress is that Thrive Themes works with multiple plugins while OptimizePress only works under one.

By using a single plugin, it allows you to do everything in one dashboard, but it also means a lot of unused features will be redundant.

And that’s why Thrive Themes takes the gold here because, with its suite of tools, you can choose the add-ons or plugins that you want to use, thereby boosting your website’s loading speed.

Comparing Thrive Themes with OptimizePress is also similar to marketing versus design.

OptimizePress has its base of users who want to build great-looking websites. Thrive Themes is more focused on marketers who want to turn visitors into customers or leads.

OptimizePress has a flexible and intuitive drag-and-drop builder. The page building tool recently introduced elements to help increase conversions, such as sign-ups, newsletters, and sales. It also has sales funnel creation that comes with advanced features and modules.

There are over 300 page templates for you to choose from and the platform gives you the ability to sell anything you can think of, from digital products to seminars and more. OptimizePress also integrates with most of the major third-party tools, plugins, and services for lead generation, email marketing, and CRMs.

One of the biggest complaints about OptimizePress is that if you decide to uninstall it later, it’s very difficult to do so.

You can click here to learn more about Optimize Press.

Thrive Themes vs. Elementor

Elementor is very similar to Thrive Architect and Thrive Theme Builder. It’s a great tool that you can use to build your entire theme.

The Pro version from Elementor costs $49 per year, and while this is a great deal, Thrive Themes offers much better value when you get the membership with all of the other tools to help with marketing.

With Elementor, you can do a great job of building your WordPress website, but Thrive’s theme builder has many similar features – while also providing you with a complete suite of marketing focused tools.

Although Elementor excels in all the latest design trends, Thrive excels in providing products that come with built-in marketing-friendly features. If you get the Thrive Architect and Thrive Theme Builder combo (which you do with the membership), it could be a great replacement for Elementor.

Also, the pop-ups in Elementor lack A/B testing features, analytics, etc., while Thrive offers advanced reporting, multi-state opt-in forms, asset delivery features, and much more.

You can click here to learn more about Elementor.

Thrive Themes vs. ClickFunnels

ClickFunnels is one of the major third-party all-in-one tools for building highly optimized websites. It’s a powerful, fast, cloud-based platform that comes with built-in payment integration. It also includes one-click upsells and downsells.

This Thrive Themes alternative also includes a membership feature, which is something that Thrive Themes doesn’t have. It also comes with affiliate and email marketing solutions in the $297 monthly plan.

If you are on a budget and want advanced features that are ready to use with external shopping cart solutions such as SamCart or ThriveCart, then Thrive Themes is the option for you.

At a price of $97/month, it’s easy to see why a lot of people choose Thrive Themes over ClickFunnels. The membership to all of Thrive’s suite of tools costs only $19/month. Also, with Thrive themes, you are using WordPress, which means you are in control of your creation and marketing, and you are not locked into anything.

With ClickFunnels, however, you are totally dependent on the cloud-based platform and you don’t have full control of your site.

While ClickFunnels has the advantage of being super fast and easy to use, which is great for non-techies, Thrive Themes products are loaded with amazing features at a lower cost – which makes it a no-brainer for marketers who want an all-in-one solution at an affordable price.

As far as the Thrive Themes vs. ClickFunnels discussion is concerned, both builders are great in their own way; the better platform is the one that better suits your needs.

You can click here to learn more about ClickFunnels.

Thrive Themes vs. Leadpages

Leadpages is another cloud application that is very similar to ClickFunnels. This Thrive Themes alternative is very fast, has an intuitive user interface, and delivers a great user experience overall. The main features of this platform are landing page creation and lead generation.

Recently, Leadpages introduced “Leadpages Checkouts” which allows you to collect Stripe payments. With Thrive Themes, this is not possible unless you integrate with external payment products.

With regard to the page builder, Thrive Themes has a lot of features that are unavailable in Leadpages, including advanced scarcity marketing, quizzes, A/B testing, and reporting features, and much more.

Furthermore, Leadpages costs $48/month whereas Thrive Themes Membership for the entire suite of tools costs only $19/month.

These are just some of the page builders that are available as alternatives to Thrive Themes.

As you can see, each of them would make a great alternative, but in general, they don’t stack up with regards to features.

I still recommend the Thrive Membership because none of these tools can beat it when it comes to value for money.

None of them have the suite of tools that Thrive Membership does.

For a very small monthly membership fee, you get access to all of the tools that you need to build high converting website pages and transform website visitors into leads and paying customers.

You can click here to learn more about Leadpages.

Website Speed

One of the biggest complaints of nearly all theme builders is that they negatively impact speed. While they can if you overuse the page builder on every page of your site, here’s some food for thought.

Every single website I own is using Thrive Themes and each month collectively, I get around 650k pageviews across my portfolio.

But how fast is Thrive Theme Builder?

While I don’t have all of the technical aspects around the speed of Thrive Theme Builder, I can tell you confidently that it has not negatively impacted my portfolio of website from (pun intended) thriving.

Also, something else to note is that Thrive Theme Builder has a built in module focused on Sitespeed as a whole.

Each of these sections are crucial to making your site as fast as possible. The options include;

  • Project Lightspeed: Mostly focused on CSS and Javascipt optimization
  • Minification and Caching: Helps compress scripts and style coding
  • Image Optimization and Delivery: Speeds up the process of showing your images to visitors and compresses them to the smallest possible size.
  • Accelerated Mobile Pages: Focuses on speeding up your site as much as possible for mobile.

  • Thrive Suite Quarterly ($99/quarter)
  • Thrive Suite Yearly ($299/year which is a 25% discount over the quarterly option)

Both Thrive Themes pricing plans include access to: Thrive Theme Builder, Thrive Architect, Thrive Quiz Builder, Thrive Leads, Thrive Apprentice, Thrive Ultimatum, Thrive Ovation, Thrive Optimize, Thrive Comments and Thrive Automator. They also include 24/7 support, Thrive University access, the ability to use Thrive Themes on 5 websites, and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Product Support

You can get support from Thrive Themes by submitting a support ticket for your queries from right inside your thrive dashboard.

There’s no chat option, and while the support team is good at what they do, they typically respond within 24 hours which is slow and can be frustrating if you’re in the middle of a project.

Having said that, they are highly knowledgeable and friendly and will work with you to resolve any issue you might experience.

Thrive Themes also has a large forum where you can submit your queries. However, I feel it’s difficult to search and find issues that have already been resolved.

Wrapping Up The Thrive Themes Review

It’s time to wrap up this Thrive Themes review and make a conclusion regarding its features and usefulness.

Thrive Themes is an amazing platform because it’s much more than just a WordPress theme. It’s a conversion-focused website, landing pages, lead-generation quizzes, online courses, and an email list builder.

Overall, I’d say one of the best things about Thrive Themes is that you won’t have to mix and match your WordPress themes and plugins to try to find something that works while causing technical issues. Instead, you can use all of the conversion-focused marketing tools they’ve developed to better manage and grow your own online business.

  • Thanks for your analyse and description. Do You know if you can use some Elementor plugins (for example to add a Image hotspot) or H5P with Thrive ? Thanks in advance

    • I believe that would be fine. Worst case, they have a money-back guarantee, but I can’t see why it wouldn’t work.
