April was a great month for the business as I was able to earn over 100k.  Granted, doing so required me to part with some of my sites that I’ve built over the years, but I was completely okay with that as I’ve been working to reduce the number of web properties I’m working on for awhile now. 

The biggest positive this month: It’s hard not to point out the obvious…..any time that I’m able to break 6 figures in earnings in a single month, I’m happy about it.   

The biggest negative this month:  While I’m happy both of these sites have sold, in a way you have to remember that both of these were technically failures. 

Weird, right? 

Well, if you think about it for what it is, I never intended to sell either of these sites as I had huge aspirations for them at one time.  That said, while I’m not upset that I had high earnings for the month, in a way these sales were bittersweet.  I’m not upset considering the outcome, but keep in mind that combined these sites could have sold for $300k if I sold when they were at their peak. 

Here are the numbers behind my business for the month:

• Revenue: $117,626 (This includes revenue from all sources)
• Expenses : $13,043 (This includes healthcare costs and my own monthly paycheck of $6,900 as an expense)
• Net Income: $104,583

This month we didn’t have a ton of things out of the ordinary.  Aside from getting the stomach flu for a THIRD time in as many months, we decided that it’s time to embark on a brand-new kitchen/living room remodel. 

While things in our house are functional, they’re original with the house and it’s time for a refresh.  I tend to do these types of updates when I have a large sum of cash hit my bank account, and this is something we’ve been putting off for a long time. 

Other than that, we were supposed to go to Illinois to visit family in April as well, but unfortunately, we contracted Covid for the 4^th time in the first week of April, so that put a hold on that.  We’re feeling better now with all the sickness going around, but it was a rough month from that perspective.

April was another month of COMPLETELY ignoring OneHourProfessor.

And, not surprisingly, Google had a change of heart on some of the recent traffic increases.  To sum things up, most of the traffic gains in March were canceled out because….well, who knows at this point.  Google is truly a wildcard, and I can’t make sense of their methods anymore.  One algo update things are great, the next traffic drops 30%, only to rise again 40% a month later. 

I long for the days when there was some stability to traffic from SEO.

Anyway, as mentioned, I didn’t do much for OHP in April from a content perspective.  I did renegotiate with a few affiliate partners to increase payouts, and that seems to have benefited the site quite a bit. 

That’s been a learning experience for sure, and while it’s annoying, it’s worth the time.  For instance, in one scenario, I was able to increase my affiliate payout by 120%….simply by asking. 

Not bad for a quick 5-minute email discussion.

PLAN:  It’s official, in May I’m going to start writing content again for the site.  I’m not entirely sure how much yet, but I’m thinking of something like 2-3 articles per week.  I’d love to go hard at the site and invest heavily, but as of right now, I’m going to hold off on doing that.

Traffic dropped slightly this month, but earnings increased a little bit.  Nothing major as this is a smaller site and I don’t see any big trends to get excited about.

PLAN:  For now, we will let this site sit and see what happens organically with Google.

This site was flat MoM for traffic and earnings.  No big changes, no major updates.

PLAN:  No future plans for the site, I just want to let it sit and see what happens.

I’m happy to say that this site is officially monetized and was able to make $250 this month!  This is great considering it’s made absolutely no revenue since I started it in March of 2021.  The earnings were made strictly through affiliate marketing and it has no display ads. 

PLAN:  Now that this site is showing some promise, I’m going to be publishing two articles per week.  It’s not much, and I don’t think it’ll bring in huge gains quickly, but this site is showing promise and the branding has been done properly so I think this one is worth investing in.

I haven’t put any new funding into this site, but I’m thinking of hiring a Filipino writer to help me publish more here.  It really shouldn’t be too difficult to put more content on this site and I think it shows some promise, so soon I’ll be looking into this.

Very similar site to the above and I have a similar plan.  This will be my opportunity to test AI content.

The OneHourProfessor YouTube channel continues to plug along, and will sit for the near-term. 

PLAN: Things still on hold here.  I’m still not entirely sure on plans, though I do know I’d like to get back on to YouTube at some point.
